The aluminum-case Nokia 8850 is premium in every detail

Nokia has today introduced yet another compelling statement of design. The Nokia 8850 is a dual band GSM 900/1800 mobile phone, a perfect combination of exceptional design and comprehensive features.

At 91 g and 70 cc, the Nokia 8850 is light and small, yet has outstanding performance and an extensive set of features, including voice dialing. The Nokia 8850 was unveiled at the CommunicAsia '99 exhibition held in Singapore. The product will be available in the 4th quarter of 1999.

The Nokia 8850 design is harmonious with the other phones in the Nokia 8800 series. The cover is made of a combination of aluminum and magnesium. The Nokia 8850 incorporates an internal high-performance antenna and internal semi-fixed battery. The new features include voice dialing, which allows the user to store up to 8 voice tags in the phone memory. Once the voice tag is recorded, a phone call can be made simply by activating the feature with a single keystroke and saying the prerecorded name to the phone. The Nokia 8850 also supports predictive text input, which enables users to type messages with greater speed and convenience. The phone's built-in dictionary assists in quickly picking up the right word. Picture Messaging allows users to send graphical pictures attached to a short message. The phone comes with a set of default pictures that can be sent to another Nokia 8850 or to a Nokia 3210. More informative and fun pictures can be downloaded from Nokia's website, where the user can also design new pictures.

The standby time of the Nokia 8850 is up to 150 hours and the talktime is up to 3 hours 20 minutes, depending on the network conditions. The infrared port of the Nokia 8850 allows for the transfer of phonebook entries and messages between phones and for data transfer using the phone's built-in modem. Another new feature is the real-time clock, which can automatically receive the correct local time from the network. The Nokia 8850 has a built-in vibra alert, and it supports all three wireless voice codecs, HR, FR, and EFR, as well as the extended GSM bandwidth, the EGSM band.
